After barely making the cut on Friday, Tiger Woods had himself a day in Round 3 at The Players Championship, pouring in his best round of 2018 and lowest-ever score at TPC Sawgrass with a 65 that vaulted him from the bottom of the leaderboard to among the top 15 as Saturday’s action continues.
Jason Day, Matt Kuchar, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott are among those in pursuit, of leader Webb Simpson, but none has caught up thus far as Simpson opened the round by extending his advantage on the field. Who makes it a contest remains to be seen, but after 65s from Woods and Jordan Spieth, there are still some big scores to be had at TPC Sawgrass.
The biggest names in the sport of golf all showed up for the Players Championship at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, this week, and it would not have been a surprise to see Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Bubba Watson or even Tiger Woods holding the lead after 36 holes.
Instead, Webb Simpson holds a five-shot lead at the midway point of the tournament with a remarkable score of 15-under par. His total of 129 sees him ahead of Charl Schwartzel, Patrick Cantlay and Danny Lee, who are all on 134.
